I think that any sample based instrument is going to achieve portamento by pitch-shifting the sample, right? I find I can't apply more than 2 half-tones to a string sample without it sounding super unnatural.Ī proper portamento would actually have to kind of seamlessly morph between the sustain section of one sample to the sustain section of another sample as you bend.
